Lightning App Not Defaulting for Profile on Login?
Question:
I want users with the profile “Custom: Support Profile” to default to the Lightning app “Service Console” when they log in. I have assigned “Service Console” as the default app for this profile.
However, when users log in, they are taken to the “Service” app instead. They do have access to “Service Console,” but it does not load as the default.
Why is this happening, and how can I ensure they land in the correct app upon login?
Answer:
Salesforce only applies the default app setting the first time a user logs in. After that, if a user switches apps during a session and logs out, Salesforce will remember their last-used app and take them back to it upon login. This behavior overrides the profile’s default app setting.
To work around this, you can ask users to manually switch to the desired app on their first login. Alternatively, if you need to enforce the default app upon every login, consider using custom login flows or a custom homepage component that redirects users based on their profile.
Additionally, Salesforce has acknowledged a known issue where a profile’s default app does not apply on a user’s first login when a custom Lightning app is assigned. You can check Salesforce Known Issues for updates on this.
